Hi Everyone!
I'm a newbie to HMM....just left (a whole 5 days ago!) my full time job working for an Investment Bank in Sydney CBD to stay at home with my 15 mth old little girl.
Where do I start!?.....Miss mischief was born while hubby and I were living in the Northern Beaches, Sydney. Paying $400+ per week in rent for a shoe box of an apartment was ludicrous so we decided to move to the Central Coast when she was only 5 wks old. It was the best move we could have made kicking ourselves that we didn't do it sooner..way cheaper rent and a more family type lifestyle. Some would say "oh my god how long does it take you to get to work?" answer was....1 hr 20 mins.....I got to work quicker from the Central Coast living 85kms away than living 40 kms away on the Northern Beaches! go figure...
I went back to work part time when Stella was 5mths old then went back full time when she turned 1. Being a working mum is so hard.....knowing that you 've got a baby at home that you know you should be at home with but you have to pay bills etc and the only way to do that is earn an income . The care of Stella was shared between my hubby and I...when I was at work he was at home and vice versa. Having no family support nearby is really difficult but you tend to put 2 heads together and make things work out....Saying that I woke up one morning 7 weeks ago and thought 'bugger it' my little girl needs me at home and there is no way in hell I can get back the first years of her life if I'm stuck at work. My mum always told me the first years of your child's life are the most precious...like always she's right
So after 2 weeks of sleepless nights I finally found the courage to hand in my resignation. I absolutely loved my job if my situation was any different I would definitely have stayed there forever. My manager was more than supportive and understanding and even offered my job back should I ever decide to return to the workforce. I walked out of the office 5 days ago with my head held high and with the biggest bunch of farewell flowers knowing that I had made the best decision for me and my family,
With only been at home a few days, has been hard to settle into not having to work...I'm still waking and getting out of bed at 530am struggling to push myself to sleep in. When I told myself that it would take me awhile to settle into being a stay at home mum i wasn't wrong....how does one adjust after working since they were 14 and for the last 21 years (yes I'm 35!)....
Already I have spent hours on the internet planning my next plan of attack! hence coming across HMM just 3 hrs ago! my brain is still in the working mode and will not stop! I'm considering my options to being able to work from home part time in a few months (I'm hoping HMM will be able to help me out in this dept!) But having saying that here is my plan of attack for the next few months:
- Find a Playgroup in the area where Stella can interact with other kids and I can meet other mums a couple of days a week
- Research business/work options which I can do from home to enable me to still be at home.
- Complete my Accounting studies
- Meet other mums!
