The Colour of Success
Posted On 16/07/2008 23:55:09 by HMMAdmin

Make your first impression a lasting impression.

Imagine how you feel when you receive a compliment about how good you look. It not only puts a smile on your face, but your confidence level rises. You feel ten feet tall and great about yourself. Likewise if you have ever been asked if you are feeling ill, when you are actually feeling fine? You will know how deflating that can be. Suddenly you feel very down in the dumps and your confidence level drops dramatically. Usually these reactions to how you look, are based on the colours you are wearing. The wrong colours can be very draining and can make you look ill, whereas the correct colours will give your complexion a glowing, healthy look.

Are you the centre of attention at functions, or do people avoid coming to talk to you? Are your clothes sending subliminal messages? Friendly and approachable, or authoritative and powerful? When buying a new garment there are usually a variety of colours to choose from. Does it really matter if you choose the red one or the blue one? Both articles cost the same, so the colour is a no cost item. It makes sense to choose the colour which would best suit you and create the message you want it to. How do you know whether you should wear a blue-based red or a yellow-based red? By wearing a particular colour are you sending the right message to those around you?

We only have one chance of making a first impression. Within the first five seconds of walking into a room, people have assessed who you are, what your values are, your capabilities, your background, your confidence level as well as your professionalism. Through learning the importance of looking good we can achieve so much more in our careers. Whether someone is looking for a new job, or wanting a promotion within their organisation, wearing the right style of clothing for the occasion, your profession and your body shape, in colours which send the correct message, is important. By creating an illusion we are able to develop the right impression.

Here are some tips to help you get started.

To appear taller, wear one colour or tone from head to toe. Open jackets and V necklines will produce a longer line.

To appear slimmer, use vertical lines. Skirts and pants which taper will instantly make you look slimmer.

To improve a small bust, wear blouses with ruffles or soft draping.

To minimize a full bust, wear correct fitting bras, sleeves should end anywhere other than on the bustline.

Thanks for all of those wonderful tips.

May I add another?

If you have a bigger bust, wearing V neck tops make them appear smaller or less 'bulky'.

I don't know how this works but I got the top from the Oprah show.

I am a very petite person (size 8 in clothing) but my must is now a 10DD.

I tried it and it works.

Hope this helps other women.

That is great advice.  I don't ever really think about what a colour does to me, only that I like it.  I guess I am not assessing myself when I walk into a room, it is everyone else!  I'll have to rethink next time I am out shopping.

Thanks.
